All About Medicare

Are you about to turn 65? Do you need a better explanation of Medicare than those brief commercials on TV? As the Medicare insurance consultant our communities trust, Teton Medicare is here to take you step-by-step through the Medicare process.

First off, you should not wait to enroll. If you wait, you may have to pay a penalty as well as experience a gap in your coverage. There are only certain times you can enroll. Some get Medicare automatically, while others must apply. You can first enroll during the initial enrollment period, which lasts seven months. This period usually begins three months before turning 65 and ends three months after that. If you’re already receiving Social Security benefits, then you are auto-enrolled into Medicare.

Finding the Right Coverage for Your Needs

The only parts of Medicare you can be auto-enrolled into is Original Medicare, which consists of Part A and Part B. If you need long-term care, dental, vision, hearing and other aspects of health insurance, you will have to enroll yourself.

Teton Medicare is here to walk you through this process, determine what you need and find the right coverage at the best price for you. Call (208) 557-1234 to schedule your FREE consultation with an expert Medicare insurance consultant and get the local support you want for your specific medical needs.

Understanding Each Type of Medicare

There are multiple “parts” of Medicare which contain different coverage:

Medicare Part A

Part A covers in-patient hospital stays, nursing facility care, hospice care and some health care. Usually Part A does not cost you a cent.

Medicare Part B
Part B is outpatient medical coverage. It helps to pay for medically necessary services performed on an outpatient basis needed to diagnose and treat a medical condition. This can include surgery, lab work and preventative services.
Medicare Part C
Part C is also called Medicare Advantage, or MA. It is an alternative to Original Medicare. MA may include prescription drug coverage, among other benefits. It is offered through private insurance companies, so you do not enroll in it via Social Security.

Medicare Part D
Part D is also known as prescription drug coverage. It is available as a stand-alone option (PDP) or as part of a Medicare Advantage (Part C) plan. Part D plans are offered through private insurance companies which are contracted and approved by Medicare.

Medicare Supplements
Medicare Supplement plans, also called Medigap, are designed to work with Parts A and B. These policies help to pay for some health care costs not covered by Original Medicare, such as deductibles, foreign travel emergencies and co-insurance. These plans are offered by private insurance companies and are available to individuals with Medicare Part A and B. If you have Original Medicare and a Medicare Supplement, you can choose any stand-alone Part D plan to help pay for prescriptions. Those who are enrolled in Part C are not eligible for a Medicare Supplement policy.
