Learn More About Medicare Part C

Medicare Part C is also called Medicare Advantage and fulfills the basic coverage of Original Medicare, but with additional benefits. Sometimes these benefits can be provided at no additional cost to you since Medicare actually pays the insurance company a set amount for providing you with coverage.

At Teton Medicare, we are your locally owned resource for determining the best Medicare options for your needs. Call (208) 557-1234 to schedule a FREE consultation.

Eligibility for Medicare Advantage

If you are eligible for Medicare and live in a county where Medicare Advantage plans are offered, you should have the option of an Advantage plan. You must be enrolled in both Part A and Part B before you can purchase an Advantage plan. You cannot drop Part B either, or you will lose your Advantage plan.

Medicare Advantage Enrollment

Initial coverage election period — Your initial coverage election period is the seven-month period that starts three months before you turn 65 and ends three months after then. If you are under 65 and receive Social Security disability, you qualify for Medicare in the 25th month after you begin receiving Social Security. If that is how you are becoming eligible for Medicare, you can enroll into an Advantage plan three months before your month of eligibility until three months after.

  • Annual election period — Also known as open enrollment or AEP, the annual election period for Medicare Advantage is always October 15 through December 7. Coverage for the Part C plan you choose during this time will begin January 1 of the following year. During this time, you can also add, change or drop your current coverage.
  • Medicare Advantage open enrollment period — During this open enrollment period, you can change from one Advantage plan to another or drop it all together to return to Original Medicare.
  • Special election period — There are several unique things that can trigger a special election period. To find out if you qualify for a special election period, schedule an appointment with Teton Medicare.
